Nashville Predators Acquire Forward Adam Edstrom from Rangers

The Nashville Predators acquired forward Adam Edstrom from the New York Rangers in a trade announced Saturday by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Chris MacFarland.

What happened?

The Predators sent forward Massimo Rizzo and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to New York in the deal.

Edstrom, 25, appeared in 35 games with the Rangers in the 2025-26 season, collecting five points.

He was originally selected by New York in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft.

Why it matters for Nashville Predators

The acquisition of Edstrom adds depth to the Predators' lineup, currently standing 10th in the Western Conference with a 38-34 record.

Edstrom's experience in the NHL, including 97 games with the Rangers, will be valuable to the team.

He scored 10 goals and 16 points in his NHL career with the Rangers.

What comes next?

Edstrom is entering the second season of a two-year contract signed in June 2025, carrying a $1.95 million total value and a $975,000 cap hit.

He will be a restricted free agent upon expiration of the deal.

The Predators' trade may impact their lineup, especially with Edstrom's ability to play multiple positions.

And the team's current L2 streak may be affected by the new addition.

But the Predators are looking to improve their standing in the Western Conference.

So the acquisition of Edstrom is a step in the right direction.

Edstrom's 2025-26 season was impacted by injury, including a fractured ankle that sidelined him from December to March.

He also missed time due to injury during a 51-game season in which his role was disrupted.

The Predators are hoping Edstrom will be able to contribute to the team's success.
