The Nashville Predators have acquired forward Nils Hoglander from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2029 third-round draft pick.
The trade brings Hoglander, a 25-year-old left wing, to the Predators after he scored two goals and had three assists in 38 games last season.
He is in the second year of a three-year, $9 million deal he signed in 2024.
Hoglander's addition strengthens the Predators' lineup, which currently stands at 10th in the Western Conference with a 38-34 record, on a L2 streak as of June 30, 2026.
He should slot in the Predators' bottom six, but has enough speed to spot in the top six if needed.
This is MacFarland's fourth player acquisition via trade since taking over as general manager on June 2, following the additions of Jack Drury, Ross Colton, and Adam Edstrom.
Hoglander, a second-round draft pick by Vancouver in 2019, had 27 points in 56 games as a rookie in 2020-21 and finished in eighth place for the Calder Trophy that year.
The Predators will look to integrate Hoglander into their lineup, potentially using him in a heavy forechecking role.
And with his speed and agility, Hoglander could be a valuable asset for the Predators in their upcoming games.
But for now, the focus is on getting Hoglander accustomed to the team's system and playbook.
So the Predators' coaching staff will work closely with him to ensure a smooth transition.
Hoglander's experience playing against the Predators in the first round of the 2024 playoffs, where he played all six games, will also be beneficial in his new role.
